How to choose the right paper for your project

You’re briefing a new brochure, event programme, or direct mail campaign. The visuals are locked in, the copy is engaging, but then your printer asks: “What paper stock would you like to use?”

It’s a common pain point for marketing departments – navigating the world of paper weights, finishes, and sustainability claims can be overwhelming. But making the right choice here can elevate your brand, boost engagement, and even improve ROI.

GSM stands for grams per square metre. It’s the standard measure of paper thickness and weight. Let’s take a look at what GSM paper is best for different projects:

• 100–120gsm: Ideal for letterheads or internal documents
• 130-170gsm: A good weight for flyers or inner pages of a brochure
• 200–300gsm: Premium flyers or posters
• 250-350gsm: Perfect for covers, postcards, or high-end invites

I popped into treetop on the off chance they could help me print a batch of A3 drawings for a building project I was working on.
I had no appointment at all, but the guys there couldn't have been more helpful, they printed all of my drawings for me and the price was very keen as well.

I would highly recommend them as a company to work with.

Contacted them to get an academic poster printed for a conference I was attending and was very impressed with the whole experience. They were kind, friendly, easy to contact and very responsive. The poster was perfect and exactly what I had asked for. The colours were beautiful and everything was clear and to a very high standard. Will definitely return and recommend to others.

I've been incredibly impressed with Will and Treetop Design & Print! Not only are they outstanding at what they do - delivering high-quality print and design work with attention to detail and creativity - but they also go above and beyond to support the local community. It’s rare to find a business that cares so deeply about both their clients and the area they serve. Their team is professional, friendly, and always willing to go the extra mile to make sure everything is perfect. I can’t recommend them highly enough.

Unbelievable service. Myself and my partner were left short on signage for our wedding. This was due to an error on the part of vistaprint. We did not have enough time to re-order and so we looked for local solutions - there was Treetop Design and Print. I emailed the company and Will was on the case straight away. They printed what we needed within a day, free of charge. It’s this generosity that will ensure we look locally in the future. A huge thank you to Will and the team. You saved the day. Amazing service and high quality product.

The team at Treetop are exceptional. They have completed my printing works for the last 18months and the work has been consistently excellent. My manuals are printed at a very high standard, and my students consistently compliment the quality of them. So grateful to have found them and highly recommend.
