Contains no animal-derived ingredients
Measures in place to avoid cross-contamination during production

Not sure which stock you need?

Tell us about your product, how it’s shipped, and the finish you’re aiming for. We’ll recommend the most sustainable option that still protects your product and fits your budget.

Eco coatings, laminates and finishes

The right finish can transform your packaging but some coatings make recycling harder. We’ll guide you through the options so you can balance aesthetics with sustainability.

Our eco-first approach to finishes:

Water-based (aqueous) coatings
Our default choice for many projects: fast-drying, low odour and compatible with standard paper recycling.

Vegan-compliant gloss and matt varnishes

Give your packs a premium feel without animal-derived ingredients.

Minimal plastic laminates

Where lamination is essential (for heavy handling or long-life packs), we’ll discuss options such as thinner films or alternatives, and clearly explain any impact on recyclability.

Special finishes

Foiling, embossing or spot varnish can still be part of an eco-friendly pack when used selectively on sustainable board. We’ll help you keep overall material usage efficient.

Wherever possible, we’ll recommend combinations that keep your packaging widely recyclable at kerbside and clearly explain any trade-offs before you sign off artwork.

Designed with end-of-life in mind

Sustainable packaging isn’t just about what it’s made from, it’s also about what happens next. We design your packaging so customers know exactly what to do with it after use.

End-of-life options we can support:

Kerbside recyclable

Most of our paper and board packaging is designed to go straight into standard recycling collections, with no need to separate layers.

Compostable / biodegradable

Where appropriate, we can advise on compostable board and inks – and how to label them clearly so customers understand whether they’re suitable for home or industrial composting.

Reusable formats

Sturdy boxes that can be repurposed or kept by customers extend the life of the materials and add value to your brand.

We’ll also help you add simple on-pack instructions or icons (for example, “Recycle with cardboard” or “Reuse this box”) so your eco investment translates into real-world behaviour.

Your eco credentials, made visible

When you choose Treetop for eco packaging, you’re choosing:

FSC® certified printing

Access to packaging boards carrying FSC® labels such as FSC® Recycled and FSC® Mix, demonstrating responsible or reclaimed fibre sourcing.

Inks from renewable resources

We only run inks formulated from renewable raw materials as part of our commitment to low-impact printing.

Eco packaging FAQs

Is vegan ink as vibrant as standard ink?

Yes – modern vegan inks deliver the same colour intensity and durability as conventional inks, while avoiding animal-derived ingredients and often using low-VOC, renewable components.

Can eco packaging still be fully branded and customised?

Absolutely. You can still use vibrant full-colour print, foiling, specialist finishes and custom dielines. We simply match those choices with sustainable boards, inks and coatings that work harder for the planet as well as your brand.

What’s the difference between FSC® Recycled and FSC® Mix?

FSC® Recycled means the board is made from reclaimed fibres only (pre- or post-consumer), verified by an independent certification body.

FSC® Mix combines FSC-certified fibre, recycled content and/or controlled wood that avoids unacceptable sources such as illegally logged forests.

We’ll recommend the most suitable grade based on your design, budget and sustainability targets.

Is eco packaging always more expensive?

Not necessarily. Recycled and FSC-certified boards are now widely available, and smart design can often reduce material usage or pack sizes to keep costs competitive. We’ll always give you transparent options so you can see the cost and environmental implications side by side.

Can you help me choose the right eco packaging for my product?

Yes. Share your product type, how it’s shipped, your storage conditions and any certifications you need (vegan, food-safe, etc.). Our team will propose a spec with material, board weight, finish and eco credentials clearly set out.
